EASA Part 145 Maintenance Organisation Approvals

Description

This course provides participants with an understanding of the EASA Part 145 and CAA Malaysian Part 145 organisation approval, together with the associated Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) and the Guidance Material (GM). Knowledge acquired from participation on this course will enable participants to help their organisations to demonstrate and maintain compliance to both EASA Part 145 and CAA Malaysia Part 145.

By the end of this course, participants will demonstrate understanding of the followings through presentations, group discussions and practical exercises:

  • Compliance with latest European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Regulations and CAA Malaysia Regulations
  • Initial approval requirements and process of Part 145 maintenance approval organisations
  • Production of a Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE)
  • Construction and control of facilities, competence of staff, equipment, components, maintenance data
  • Requirements for procedures for control of the Approval and the quality oversight of the organisation
  • Requirements for compliance with EASA User Guides as required for Foreign Part 145 organisations

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for individuals from Maintenance Organisations, Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisations and/or those who regulate such organisations. 

It would be advantageous for participants to be familiar with or have experience of maintenance or continuing airworthiness management tasks in an approved maintenance organisation.

Participants should review the relevant sections on the CAA Malaysia and EASA websites. It would be beneficial to obtain the consolidated version of EASA Part 145 and a copy of the latest CAAM CAD8601.

About the Trainer:

Mr. Devan Ramasamy, Airworthiness Surveyor

Devan is an Airworthiness Surveyor working with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA), Safety Regulation Group. He has been with the UK CAA for fifteen years and has been based in regional offices in the UK where he provided avionics support in addition to his role as an Airworthiness Surveyor. His duties have included the survey of aircraft for issuing Certificate of Airworthiness / Airworthiness Release Certificates and regulatory oversight of Part 145/Part 21/Part M subpart G organisations.

Devan was selected to be an EASA Inspector to carry out standardisation audits of Competent Authorities within Europe. He worked for the General Civil Aviation Authority of the United Arab Emirates from Nov 2009 to March 2012 where he was involved in the introduction of CAR M (similar to EASA Part M) and the training of GCAA Inspectors in CAR 145/CAR M and other ICAO regulatory functions. As result of his experience, he was tasked with the oversight of a major airline and a highly prestigious air operator within the region.

Prior to joining the UK CAA in 1998, Devan was a Licensed Engineer (Avionics) with airlines/MROs based in the UK and overseas before becoming a Quality Engineer in 1989. His last position before joining the CAA was as a Quality Manager for a major airline. He currently holds an EASA Part 66 Licence (categories B1/B2/C).

Devan is a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and an Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council of the United Kingdom.
