Description

The aim of this course is to provide an introductory overview of Safety Management Systems (SMS) as required by the regulations. 

The theoretical elements taught by the instructor includes a presentation, together with practical demonstrations of important risk analysis tools that are typically utilised in Aviation Safety management.

Who Should Attend?

This training course is aimed at personnel new to safety management issues or those requiring an update of skills and knowledge and those personnel who will be involved with the development, delivery and management of safety management processes for the first time at both departmental and organisation levels.

Content:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

- Provide a comprehensive overview of an effective SMS in terms of its’ overall importance and associated benefits;
– Define the term ‘Safety’ and explain the ICAO concept;
– State the responsibilities of senior aviation management in terms of implementation and commitment;
– List and explain the characteristics of a modern SMS and apply this to your own organisational perspective;– Discuss the operational and commercial importance of safety management;
– Clearly define and apply Safety Policy and Objectives in terms of regulatory requirements;
– Describe the SMS implementation plan and why it is critical to the success of SMS from the outset;
– State the need and typical requirements of an SMS Manual as per ICAO;
– Define the Safety Accountable Executive/Manager in terms of accountabilities, responsibilities & requirements;
– Explain the importance of documentation and communication;
– Define typical Safety Management Organisational structure & hierarchy;
– Explain safety risk management processes for the identification of hazards;
– Implementation of non-punitive hazard reporting systems as a means to encourage greater and more effective safety reporting;
– Describe the desirable characteristics of a typical safety reporting system;
– Discuss the four generic steps to actioning a safety report;
– State the requirements for the formal process of data capture & analysis, Assessment and control;
– State the means of verifying the organizations’ safety performance;
– State the need for organizations to develop a formal change management process.
